Kurla is a major suburb in Mumbai and is also one of the busiest suburban railway stations on the central and harbour railway lines of the city. The name Kurla is derived from the word, “Kurli” which is a local name for crab, as they were found in abundance, before it was turned into a neighborhood. It is mainly a residential area where there are a number of good townships, household localities and various colleges, schools and educational institutions. It also houses the new University of Mumbai which is the advisory committee for all the graduate and post graduate schools.
Kurla is in close proximity to Santa Cruz domestic airport and also Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus which is the international airport of Mumbai.
